The million dollar boating facility at Packers Camp, Redbank Road is now complete with the ramp fully open for use just in time for the June/July school holidays.

Treasurer and Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt said the local contractor Pensar Building Pty Ltd had completed the $1.35 million upgrade works ahead of schedule.

“The very popular single lane ramp at Packers Camp has had a major overhaul, now boasting a new all-tide four lane boat ramp with a floating walkway,” Mr Pitt said.

“The new floating walkway down the centre of the ramp will greatly improve safety and accessibility by allowing for faster and improved boat launching and retrieval operations and better access.

“Further works will now be carried out by council to upgrade the onshore facilities to compliment the boat ramp.”

Main Roads and Ports Minister Mark Bailey said Cairns City Council are finalising the car-trailer park plan with the upgrade works planned to occur in the 2017-18 financial year.

“The Queensland Government knows the importance of catering for future growth in this area,” Mr Bailey said.

“This is where our $30 million boost to the Marine Infrastructure Fund plays such an important part for the boating community.

“With an ever-increasing number of boat owners accessing our waterways, the Marine Infrastructure Fund has been able to provide much-needed facilities and upgrades to some of our most popular recreational fishing spots.”
