$13.3 million to widen the Bruce Highway to six lanes

$100,000 for Mulgrave Cricket to construct indoor multipurpose training facility

Proud sponsor of Gordonvale Men's Shed

Proud to be your elected representative in Mulgrave

As your local Member for Mulgrave, I have worked hard since being elected in 2009 to deliver for the Far North.

I will continue to pursue economic development and investment opportunities for our region and ensure projects like the Cairns Convention Centre expansion, Cairns Shipping Development Project, the Global Tourism Hub, and the Bruce Highway duplication to four lanes between Edmonton and Gordonvale are implemented.

As Speaker of the 56th Parliament, my goal is to ensure continuing respect for the Queensland Parliament, and as a member from regional Queensland, I particularly want to see as many Queenslanders as possible interact with our Parliament – no matter where they live.

I’m proud to be your elected representative and I will continue to put the Far North first.

Hon. Curtis Pitt MP
Speaker of the Queensland Parliament
Member for Mulgrave

Congratulations to our darling Layla on achieving her AA Award at Gordonvale State School this week! It was the first full school parade open to parents we’ve had since COVID-19, so Kerry and I were happy we could be there. What made it even better was that Layla had four of her best friends on stage with her too. We’re very proud of you - well done Layla! 🥳🏆 ... See MoreSee Less

I had the opportunity today to take a look at progress on the temporary Cairns Taipans venue at the old Bunnings site and as you can see it’s really coming along! Great to join Michael Healy MP, President Troy Stone and CEO Mark Beecroft to get a run through. Temporary seating from Cairns Regional Council has made it look like a real sports stadium now and the purpose built rooms and modification works are well on track. Thanks to Minister Mick de Brenni for arranging the visit through QBuild. Orange Army [Cairns Taipans Fan Group] - our temporary home is shaping up well.

On Monday there was a full house at Cairns Taipans HQ for the announcement that Nate Jawai had signed a new two-year deal. I’m very pleased to see the Taipans roster coming together now. It was a very competitive roster last year, I think it’s going to be even more so this year, with some of the changes (reduced imports). I remember being at the press conference back in 2016 when we were able to secure Nate’s return to Cairns and it’s brilliant for the club to facilitate another multi-year contract.

Nate is one of the Far North’s favourite sons and he is one of the best products to ever come out of this region. He is the heart and soul of this Taipans side, particularly with the leadership role he has continued to demonstrate on the court.

Nate is at that part of his career, where he is a leader on the court, off the court, and he’s making sure he continues to be a great role model for lots of young people around Far North Queensland.

Very pleased to see the confidence Frederik Kroymans is showing in developing the southern corridor of Cairns with the Pinecrest subdivision at Mount Peter. The value of this development could be over half a billion dollars. However I am concerned that lack of capacity in terms of water and sewerage infrastructure at Mount Peter and Gordonvale may hamper development that will produce much needed housing constructions jobs.

Working with Rob Wheeler from Cardno and Ben Johnston from Property Shop Cairns, I have written to State Development Minister Kate Jones to ask that our share of the recently announced $200 million Building Acceleration Fund be used to support Cairns Regional Council to enable the necessary trunk infrastructure to support these developments. This is important to help our recovery from COVID-19 and to allow homebuyers to take advantage of federal and state housing support packages.

Expected population growth in the southern corridor is already supported by the $481 million Bruce Highway duplication between Edmonton to Gordonvale, which has just commenced, as well as the Cairns South State Development area which will support industrial growth south of Edmonton.

The Queensland Government’s previous Catalyst Infrastructure Program helped support Councils and private proponents to build roads, water, sewerage and other infrastructure, including MacKillop Catholic College, Mount Peter and Kenfrost Homes’ Mount Peter Estate.
