Treasurer and Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, says any resident of Gordonvale emotionally affected by last week’s tragic stabbing deaths should not hesitate to seek support or counselling.

“Nobody in our local community could say they were not hit hard in some way by the tragedy that saw two members of a well-known local family lose their lives,” Mr Pitt said.

“The ripple effects of such a senseless loss of life can flow throughout the network of family, friends and others who know the family involved.

“Wednesday’s planned funeral service for those who died may again cause distress to individuals of any age.

“Each one of us will deal with the impacts in our own way and most can rely on support from our own family and friends.

“But some people may need extra support, and I urge them to access it if they feel they need confidential counselling.”

Mr Pitt said several local services stood ready to assist:

• Centacare Cairns — 4044 0130
• Hambledon House Community Centre — 4044 3410
• Relationships Australia  — 4041 6063

“I know some of these services have already responded to requests for support from affected locals,” he said.

Mr Pitt said other telephone support services could also be accessed including:

• Lifeline Telephone Counselling ……………………. 13 11 14
• Kid’s Help Line ………………………………….. 1800 55 18 00
• Beyond Blue Info Line ………………………… 1300 22 46 36
