Treasurer and Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt has encouraged local community groups and organisations in Mulgrave to apply for events funding as part of the 2016 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program.

Mr Pitt said he hoped many local events would be held to celebrate our state’s birthday next year.

“I am very excited to announce applications are now open for the 2016 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program,” Mr Pitt said.

“Sponsorship funding of up to $10,000 is available for events held to celebrate Queensland Week next year between June 4 and 12 June.

“The Queensland Week Sponsorship Program encourages everyone to celebrate in a way that reflects their culture, heritage and aspirations.

“Each year, right across the state, Queenslanders mark our state’s birthday with events unique to their community.”

Mr Pitt said 16 diverse events were held across the state as part of this year’s Queensland Week celebrations, attracting crowds of more than 18,000 people.

Events were staged in Innisfail, Ayr, Yeppoon, Glenview, Dysart, Croydon, Hervey Bay, Gold Coast, Woodridge, Laidley, Normanton, Boulia, Richmond, Emerald, Crows Nest and Windorah.

“The Queensland Week events sponsored under the program included food festivals, youth and multicultural celebrations, a unique opportunity to ride on the historic Gulflander Train and a tour of the Stonehouse Museum.”
