Works to improve safety and travelling conditions on the Gillies Range Road, on Bull Pines Bend, are set to start today.

Treasurer and Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt said the $790,000 project, funded by the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program, would deliver improved safety and travelling conditions on the busy route.

“Crews will upgrade the road surface and widen a 600 metre section of Gillies Range Road between Vico St and the Goldsborough turnoff,” Mr Pitt said.

“Safer Roads Sooner is all about improving road safety through high-benefit, cost-effective measures at known black spots and potential crash locations.

“Road users have been calling out for improvements along this important route for many years, so I am sure they will be very pleased with these works.”

Mr Pitt said motorists should expect changed traffic conditions and minor delays for about four weeks while work crews were on-site.

“The project team will aim to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum during the works” he said.

“Importantly, there will be no lane closures before 9am and after 3pm, when the road is at its busiest.

“I thank motorists in advance for their patience while these important works are underway.”

Mr Pitt said Transport and Main Roads was also planning to widen and seal a second 1.3km section of the road, to be carried out at a later date.
