Member for Mulgrave and Shadow Treasurer Curtis Pitt said that a Labor Government would create Advance Queensland to reinvigorate research and development to help create well-paid, knowledge-based jobs of the future
“Labor stands for jobs and creating jobs of the future – not cutting them and growing unemployment as we’ve seen on Campbell Newman’s watch,” Mr Pitt said.
“Labor will commit up to $50 million to Advance Queensland to stimulate the growth of new cutting edge companies, take advantage of our excellent research facilities, attract and retain the brightest minds and take advantage of scientific and technological developments.
“This initiative that will help create high-tech jobs by encouraging partnerships between researchers and industry. It will turn ideas, discovery and innovation into economic activity.
“Campbell Newman and the LNP cut 24, 000 jobs and saw unemployment rise to 6.6%, despite promising to lower it.
“The only plan Campbell Newman has for Queensland are cuts to jobs, frontline service and the sale of our assets.
“There is a Better Way for Queensland.”
Advance Queensland will include research fellowships, knowledge transfer program, payroll tax holiday for new businesses established through Advance Queensland programs, and university scholarships for 20 school leavers each year.
