Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt has welcomed over $70,430 in funding from the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for the Mulgrave Electorate.

Mr Pitt said The Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) Edmonton was successful in obtaining $31,818 to purchase a bus for the centre.

“The PCYC offers a range of activities aimed at youth in Edmonton and the surrounding suburbs designed to reduce boredom which is often associated with crime and anti-social behaviour,” Mr Pitt said.

“The PCYC Edmonton in conjunction with PCYC Cairns are also due to receive $171,370 in Federal Funding through the National Crime Prevention Fund to run the Prevent, Create, Act and Talk (PACT) Program.

“The bus will allow the PCYC to service a greater area further enhance their PACT program by expanding their target area through being able to offer direct transport to and from their centre.”

[singlepic id=522 w=320 h=240 float=left] Mr Pitt said Meals on Wheels Innisfail are also set to receive over $11,834 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to install a solar system.

“The new system will allow the group to be more self-sufficient and reduce their monthly running costs,” Mr Pitt said.

“Meals on Wheels provide more than just a meal. They make a real difference in people’s lives, particularly the frail and elderly or those recovering from an accident or medical procedure by providing nutritionally prepared meals, social interaction and regular visits to ensure their clients wellbeing.

“Being located so close to the Cassowary Coast Disaster Management Centre in Innisfail, the Meals on Wheels Centre is ideally placed to assist in feeding the staff and volunteers during times of crisis.

“Other groups successful in this round of funding include:

  • C&K White Rock Community Kindergarten, $18,792 to install shade and purchase outdoor equipment
  • Cairns Urban Landcare Group, $2,382 to purchase equipment
  • Innisfail Chinese Community, $5,603 to install floor coverings

“I encourage all community groups and not-for-profit organisations to apply for a grant in the next round of funding which closes 30 November.”
