Shadow Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt says Cairns Gondwana Indigenous Choir is looking for new members with auditions being held next Saturday in Cairns.

Mr Pitt said Gondwana Choir is a great way for young indigenous people to get involved in music and celebrate their culture.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys and girls aged 10 years and older are encouraged to come along and audition for the choir,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Gondwana Choir is a wonderful way to learn about music and local Indigenous culture.

“The choir is also a platform to share young voices and built pride and confidence.

“There are currently 40 children involved in the choir and this year they are looking to expand.

“The choir will be rehearsing contemporary works weekly, including the first children’s indigenous language opera Ngallu – Boy of the Stars,” he said.

Interested parents and children should contact Erica Byrne, Gondwana National Indigenous Choirs Manager 0401 855 074.
