[singlepic id=423 w=320 h=240 float=left] Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt has announced three Gordonvale sporting groups will receive state government grants through the Community Gambling Benefit Fund and the Active Inclusion Club Support program.
“Funding has been made available to Pyramid Polocrosse Club, Gordonvale Touch Association and Mulgrave Little Athletics,” Mr Pitt said.
“We know sport and recreation clubs are the lifeblood of communities, and as a Government, we want to strengthen this role so residents can continue to enjoy their sport and recreation activities.
“Pyramid Polocrosse will receive $35,000 from the Community Gambling Benefit Fund to improve infrastructure by extending the club’s toilet and shower facilities.”
President of the Pyramid Polocrosse Club Doug Cook said the funding boost would be really handy.
“In the past we had to hire toilets for our bigger events. The additional toilets and showers will allow more people to participate,” Mr Cook said.
Mr Pitt said two other Gordonvale-based organisations would receive funding under the state government Active Inclusion Club Support program.
“Gordonvale Touch Association will receive $5,000 to conduct referee and coaching courses to support touch football and Mulgrave Little Athletics would receive $4,600 to conduct coaching clinics for 100 athletes and 10 volunteer members to support athletics at Gordonvale,” Mr Pitt said.
“Active Inclusion funds activities which encourage greater participation, education and training, and volunteer development and recruitment.
“Sport is part of our way of life here in the Far North and everyone should have the opportunity to participation in sport and recreation activities.
“Active Inclusion supports greater opportunities for all Queenslanders to be involved in sport and active recreation, and not only develops grass roots sport, but reinforces our reputation as the Champions State, and the Events State as well.”
