Queensland’s 150th Justice of the Peace (JP) signing service has opened in Cairns, said Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt.
Mr Pitt, who attended the official opening of the Mt Sheridan JP Service Desk, said the service would make it even easier to access a JP in Cairns.
“This service is in the fastest growing area in the Cairns Southern Corridor, and that growth is expected to continue,” Mr Pitt said.
“We’re working to make sure locals can access important services, like JPs, close to home,” he said.
“The JP site will be available at the Mt Sheridan Plaza every Wednesday and Saturday between 10am and 2pm.
“Eight generous local JPs have volunteered their time and skills for this site. These dedicated volunteers will also mentor newly appointed Justices of the Peace and Commissioners for Declarations.
“JPs generously give their time to help others with a range of things – from witnessing statutory declarations and land title documents.”
Cairns JP Coordinator Selwyn Johnston said the move would help hundreds of locals in the Southern Cairns area.
‘The new Mt Sheridan Plaza ‘JP Service Desk’ will certainly be of assistance to southern communities from Mirriwinni to Bayview Heights who currently travel into Cairns for JP services,’ Mr Johnston said.
Further details on the JPs in the Community program, including operating hours of all centres, can be accessed at www.justice.qld.gov.au or by phoning 1300 301 147.
