Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt today announced that Innisfail Turf Club will receive $8,800 and
Gordonvale Turf Club will receive $4,400 in funding to maintain and upgrade thoroughbred training
tracks.

“More than 70 thoroughbred race clubs throughout Queensland will benefit from $2 million in funding
under the Training Track Subsidy Scheme to offset the costs of providing training facilities for the
thoroughbred industry,” Mr Pitt said.

“This provides a real benefit to clubs ranging from the very large metropolitan and provincial training
centres to the smaller country clubs that are an important link in supplying horses for country race
meetings.

“Ensuring that Queensland has quality training facilities is essential for the continued success of the
thoroughbred racing industry,” Mr Pitt said.

Mr Pitt said the government has made real commitments to the future of the racing industry in
Queensland, and has provided $28 million through the Training Track Subsidy Scheme since its
inception in 1998.

“The Bligh Government’s continued allocation of $2 million each year for the scheme is proof of our
commitment to the racing industry.” Mr Pitt said.

“The $2 million for the training track subsidy scheme is on top of the $2.35 million announced in March
for racecourse remediation and to help small country clubs meet workplace health and safety
requirements.

“This $2.35 million forms part of the commitment under the Racing Industry Capital Development
Scheme providing up to $85 million to the racing industry over four years.

“The Bligh Government has also committed $50,000 in funding for the Queensland Community Racing
Scheme which provides funding to the smallest country race meetings to assist in putting on these
important social events.

“These ongoing investments by the Bligh Government for the racing industry across Queensland shows
that we continue to support and foster the entire industry, including metropolitan, regional and country
race clubs.

Mr Pitt said he would also be showing his support for country racing in his home town when he attends
the Gordonvale Turf Club Race Day on Saturday 21 May.
