[singlepic id=218 w=320 h=240 float=left]Bellenden Ker State School will join 13 other schools across Queensland and remain open after a sustainability review into its future was completed.
Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, said the news would be music to the ears of the school community who had put forward a convincing argument for the worth of the school.
“They knew and I knew that Bellenden Ker is a special school with an active and dedicated parent body,” Mr Pitt said.
“Schools like these are the centre of a community and their worth should be measured in more than just numbers on a piece of paper.
“I spoke to the Education and Training Minister numerous times about this process and he has been willing to listen and, as the result shows, responsive to a good argument.
“Of course, we always need to be striving to provide the best for our students and this process has unearthed a greater awareness about how we can build on the reputation of this school into the future.
“I would particularly like to thank Rodney Quabba and the school P&C for their efforts and guidance on this matter and this result is a reflection of their commitment to their community and their kids.
“I know firsthand how much this outcome will mean to the community at Bellenden Ker who like me just want to see the best educational outcomes for their students.”
Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson said this was a great outcome for the school community.
“The submissions I noted about this school all described a treasure trove of positive stories,” he said.
“It is heartening to know that the educational opportunity of our students is front and centre in the mind of the community.
“These are never easy processes, but I am confident the Bellenden Ker community will come out of this review with the aim to become even stronger in the future.
“I would like to personally thank your local Member Curtis Pitt who chewed my ear off about this wonderful community at every moment.
“He’s been a strong advocate for this school and, having read the many positive submissions, I know his advocacy is well founded.”
