The Bligh Government will take Cabinet to the people of the state’s far north with a two-day Community Cabinet to be staged in February/March.
Premier Anna Bligh announced the Cabinet would travel to Innisfail and Mareeba on 28 February and 1 March 2010.
Ms Bligh said the Community Cabinet would be held in Innisfail on Sunday 28 February at the new Innisfail State College at Flying Fish Road.
Cabinet will meet the following day (1 March) in Mareeba.
“This is a great opportunity for the people of Mareeba and Innisfail and the far north to come along and meet the State’s key decision-makers,” Ms Bligh said.
“It’s also an opportunity to get a first-hand insight into how the government plans to keep guiding Queensland through the effects of the global financial crisis.
“Community Cabinet is about ensuring I as Premier and each of my Ministers and key senior bureaucrats are staying in touch with Queenslanders.”
Mulgrave MP Curtis Pitt said it was critical government Ministers and MPs keep in touch with their constituents in all corners of the state.
“This is about keeping in touch and getting Cabinet out to the regions and listening first hand to all Queenslanders,” Mr Pitt said.
“This is a great opportunity for Queenslanders from all walks of life – individuals, groups and organisations – to come face to face with the Premier and also Cabinet Ministers and the Department Directors-General.
“Events like Community Cabinet help keep the focus on delivering for all Queenslanders.”
