Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt yesterday announced the winner of the 2009 Business Excellence Award for the Far North Queensland region.
Mr Pitt congratulated Innisfail-based ‘Anita’s Gifts’ and said the business is one of only seven across the state to receive an award.
“The Business Excellence Awards were established in 1994 to recognise outstanding service to holders of a Seniors Card or Seniors Business Discount Card and, since its introduction last year, holders of a Carer Card”, Mr Pitt said.
“Around half a million Queenslanders and nearly 10,000 businesses are part of the Queensland Government’s business discount scheme for seniors and carers.
“For a business to be nominated from such a large pool of participating businesses is an outstanding achievement.
“The award is even more significant because cardholders nominate businesses to receive an award.
In accepting the award proprietor Anita Oliveri who has operated the shop for 24 years said she was overwhelmed and thanked her many customers for their support. She said she will share the award with Delma Hampson who has worked with her for the past 19 years.
Mr Pitt thanked all the businesses which have participated in the discount scheme for seniors and carers.
“These businesses voluntarily offer discounts as a way to acknowledge the contribution of our seniors and carers throughout Queensland.
“In the case of Anita’s Gifts the 10 percent discount which is offered means a lot to a pensioner struggling on a tight budget”.
