Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, today urged local jobseekers to consider joining the Bligh Government’s new ‘Green Army’.

“We promised in the recent election that we would mobilise a Green Army which is good for jobs and helps protect our environment at the same time,” Mr Pitt said.

“And we are delivering on that promise. There is a new hotline and website for people to register interest in this exciting new program.

“These are tough economic times and I urge people looking for work, and those who care about our precious environment, to simply log on or pick up the phone.”

Premier Ana Bligh told Parliament last week that the Green Army would provide 3,000 jobs over the next three years and is critical to the Government’s plan to create 100,000 jobs over the same period.

“It is critical also to the future of our national parks, our internationally renowned walking trails, our waterways and our wet tropic regions,” Ms Bligh said.

The Green Army plan is a $57 million initiative which will work on projects which help create a greener state and conserve and improve our natural heritage.
